The customers challenge
"We converted our loft into a master suite about nine years ago, but our vision of a stylish adult retreat never quite materialised. We were eager to start again without repeating the same costly mistakes.
The room has steep, sloping ceilings and tricky angles, along with white walls that felt excessively bright. An awkwardly placed half-height wall further contributed to the odd layout, creating a corridor.
Numerous issues needed addressing, leading us to try again and transform our loft into a luxurious sanctuary but this time with professional design expertise".
The design solutions
- After overcoming the complexities of a multi-angled loft ceiling, the room layout was re-designed with a custom steel and glass partition. This creates a visual separation between the bathroom and bedroom, whilst allowing natural light to filter through the skylights and juliette balcony into the entire space.
- There was enough natural light to choose deep paint colour, but using too many colors (ceiling, walls, skirting) would only highlight all the angles. The solution is to paint all surfaces in one colour for a cosy and cohesive backdrop.
- The blend of herringbone oak wood flooring and Kimono cement tiles establishes distinct zones within the space, adding natural surface materials and soft hues of green.
Magazine worthy
The final transformation of this loft bedroom, bathroom and dressing room featured in Ideal Home Magazine. This project was chosen for its bold use of colour, elegant design choices and attention to detail serving as a source of design project inspiration for their readers.
The customer's investment
The client recognised the value of professional interior design in making the most of their space, budget and investment.
For this 47m² loft suite, design fees represented just 10% of the overall project spend, with the remaining budget allocated to furnishings, materials and installation.
Through thoughtful space planning, creative design solutions and carefully considered finishes, we helped transform a challenging layout into a cohesive bedroom, ensuite and dressing room.
The result was more than a beautifully designed interior: it gave the client a clear vision, greater confidence in their decisions and a practical direction for bringing the project to life.
